What does a pawnshop do?

There are many services that a pawnshop provides to its customers.

1. Pawn: A pawn is simple, short term cash loan backed by a product. If you'd like to more about a pawn loan, CLICK HERE.

Can I sell something instead of getting a loan?

Absolutely! We buy things that people want to sell all the time.

What can I get cash for?

So many things.

We pay for electronics, sporting goods, jewelry, firearms, tools, collectables, etc. The best way to find out if we take something, or to get an accurate quote is to text us a couple clear pictures at (605) 799-4770.

Remember, the better the items condition and cleanliness, the more you will get!

Can pawnshops be trusted?

Like any business that has ever existed, maybe, maybe not!

We have all heard of organizations that claim admirable actions, but are actually morally bankrupt.

Example: A charity that uses their donations to enrich a select few members, instead of using that money for its intended purpose. The issue here isn’t the type or classification of the business, but rather the moral compass of it’s owners and employees.

Great Plains Pawn is a businesses with integrity. We are properly licensed within the state of South Dakota, the city of Sioux Falls, and have an excellent standing with the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms division of the US Government (we do responsibly sell firearms after all).

More importantly to us, we have earned the reputation of being honest, straight forward, clean, and friendly among our customers. Please see our reviews to back up our claim.

Do pawn shops sell stolen goods?

No idea, but we do know that Great Plains Pawn certainly does not. We think this FAQ is actually pretty cool, so keep reading.

Since we opening in 2018, what do you think the the total percentage of stolen items that Great Plains Pawn has ever purchased currently sits at?

  • 20%
  • 40%
  • 60%

As of September 1st, 2025 the total percentage of stolen items that Great Plains Pawn has ever purchased is...

0.156% - Yeah, you read that correctly. It's a fraction of one percent.

Here’s why:

  • People that steal KNOW that Great Plains Pawn is possibly the worst place to sell stolen goods.
  • The software we picked for our busiess links directly to a national law enforcement database called Leads Online. This report logs each items details along with the customers information from their ID.
  • Leads Online is directly integrated into police stations across the entire United States. If something stolen shows up in our system, the police working on that case are notified immediately...literally.

Sioux Falls is important to us, criminals are not.
